The Sana Malhoa Hotel In Lisbon, Portugal

Sana Malhoa Hotel reviews

The Sana Malhoa Hotel is part of a chain of family-owned hotels, SANA Hotel.

They have been established for over twenty years and are one of Portugal’s leading hotel groups with nine hotels in the capital city, and more planned to open.

As a family-owned business, don’t be surprised if you encounter the owner of the hotel, relaxing in the lobby.

They also have properties across Portugal in Albufeira, Sesimbra, and Caldas Da Rainha.

Additionally, their international properties include Luanda, Angola; Casablanca, Morocco; Tbilisi, Georgia; and two properties in Berlin, including their SANA Residence and Sana hotel Berlin.

Sana Malhoa Location

The SANA Malhoa is located in the Sete Rios district on Av. Jose Malhoa and is known for its contemporary design.

The metro station Placa do España is a short five-minute walk away, making it easily accessible for anywhere you want to travel to within the city.

Nearby you’ll find a vegetarian restaurant, a convenience store and a park to relax in. For all your shopping needs, the El Corte Ingles Shopping Centre and numerous boutique stores are a short walk away. At the time of visiting in December, the Wonderland Lisboa Festival was taking place in the nearby park.

Sana Malhoa Rooms

SANA Malhoa has 181 rooms that are modern and decorated in light wood with plenty of natural light. Wine and water make up part of the minibar as well as snacks such as Pringles and nuts.

There is cable TV for entertainment, a safe for your valuables, and a table with two comfortable chairs for working or reading. The full-length mirror is always useful.

There are also bathrobes and slippers available for use. The spacious bathrooms are also equipped with a hairdryer and amenities, including shampoo and shower gel.

All rooms come with 24-hour room service, a radio, and an alarm clock. The beds are incredibly comfortable with very soft sheets, plush pillows, and a cozy duvet, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep.

The rooms are also soundproof to reduce any potential noise from other guests. What I really like about the property is that the same brand of bed is provided in all of their hotels, whether you choose to stay in a 3, 4- or 5-star SANA property.

If you need more space during your stay, the suites are situated on the top floor giving panoramic views over Lisbon. Larger than the rooms, the suites have a living room area, a working area, and a king-size bed. Laundry, dry cleaning, and babysitting are also additional services.

SANA Malhoa Restaurant

The newly renovated restaurant continues with a similar décor as the rooms. In the SANA restaurant, you will see the natural wood with grey chairs is accented with white light fixtures and green plants. The restaurant has large windows that reach from floor to ceiling, allowing lots of natural light to flow throughout the restaurant.

The breakfast buffet includes cold and hot items. The cold items include fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and various bread and pastries.

The hot items available include sausages, hash browns, eggs (fried or scrambled), mushrooms, and tomatoes. Detox juice was a unique addition to breakfast, as well as a choice of teas or coffee. Breakfast is available from 7:00 – 10:30 am.

The Mediterranean Restaurant serves fantastic Portuguese cuisine. If you choose to dine at the restaurant for lunch, you can expect a special menu with a choice of pasta, fish, or grilled meat. You can enjoy it inside, or it can be served outside on the terrace during the warmer months. Lunch is served from 12:30 – 3:00 pm.

Choose to dine in the evening, and you can enjoy the ambiance and the glass facades. I highly recommend the tasting menu along with wine pairing.

I’m sure all the dishes on the menu are exceptional; however, I’m always a big fan of tasting menus with wine pairings. I love the surprise of various dishes that look like pieces of art and are spectacularly tasting. Dinner service is from 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm.

The Lobby Bar

Enjoy a selection of SANA cocktails or wine while relaxing or meeting with friends in the lobby bar.

You can unwind while listening to Afterwork Sessions on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. If you are there with a group or for a party, you may want to reserve a private area near the restaurant. The lobby bar is open from 8:00 am to 1:00 am.

Hotel Amenities

Another welcoming amenity is the SANA Spa, consisting of a fitness center, sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, and a relaxation room.

As soon as you walk into the spa, you will feel instantly relaxed. Unlike some saunas, the sauna was instantly hot and the perfect temperature.

You can receive a quick tour of the spa facilities, including the treatment rooms and relaxation area, where you are given tea after your treatment.

The sauna, Turkish bath, and jacuzzi are all open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm every day. Spa treatments are available from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. If you want to work out in the evenings, the gym is open 24 hours with all the equipment you need to keep fit during your visit.

The hotel also welcomes business visitors. The hotel has seven meeting and event rooms and can hold up to 700 people. The meeting rooms are located downstairs and are spacious and private.

Getting There

There are a few ways to get to the SANA Malhoa Hotel from the airport. The easiest is taking a taxi or Uber. If you are renting a car, the hotel has car parking available for guests.

Alternatively, you can take the airport bus to the center of the city. From the drop off it’s a 20-minute walk. If you choose, you can then take a taxi or Uber from the drop-off point. The hotel is easily reachable with public transport and also has a private car park for those considering hiring a car from the airport.
