Quebec City, Canada

Quebec City is like a little European village in Canada. The cobblestone streets, historic buildings all dotted with small cafes and restaurants. Stay at Le Chateau Frontenac, a beautiful historic Fairmont Hotel property. At the hotel, you can indulge in spa treatments at Moment Spa.

There is much more to Quebec City than hotel spas. When you combine the beauty of the historic old city with a Scandinavian Spa out in the forest, you have a recipe for the perfect spa vacation.

Located 40 minutes outside Quebec City, the Siberia Station Spa sits in a beautiful forest with a natural stream. The premise of the Scandinavian spa cycle is to alternate between hot, cold, and rest treatments to promote intense relaxation. Benefits of this cycle include soothing joint muscles, improved digestion, detoxification and more.

Citrus-smelling steam rooms, relaxing saunas, hot and cold outdoor pools, and a dip in an ice-cold river are very relaxing; however, sitting in a pool staring up at a beautiful tree canopy takes this spa day to a new level. I recommend planning this trip in Winter when the trees are covered in snow, and Quebec City is lit up with decorations for its three-week annual winter carnival in February.

Mirbeau Inn & Spa, USA

Imagine…visiting Monet-inspired gardens, sipping on award-winning wine, strolling through art galleries, and photographing lavender fields.

What may sound like a relaxing vacation to France is actually a surprising and delightful getaway to the Finger Lakes region of New York State.  Here, in the charming town of Skaneateles, New York, you’ll find the perfect home base for a spa vacation at Mirbeau Inn & Spa.

Modeled after a French chateau and Monet’s gardens at Giverny, the resort’s main inn and four guest cottages house 34 total rooms, all encircling koi ponds and expansive water gardens that delight in any season. Mirbeau’s restaurant, overlooking the arched bridge over the pond, offers serene outdoor terrace seating and a wine bar. Special diets are easily accommodated, and the meals are seasonally prepared with local ingredients.

The resort’s 14,000 square foot spa offers a true, luxurious spa getaway experience. The relaxation area’s teak loungers surround a natural stone foot soaking pool and resting area. Outside, on the spa’s aqua terrace, guests can relax by the outdoor fireplace, soak in the hot tub with a waterfall, and order snacks and drinks. Treatments are offered in cozy fireplace rooms by skilled therapists ranging from facials and massages to European-style Kurs and Vichy experiences.

New York State’s Finger Lakes region is home to more than 100 wineries where the grapes are grown along sloping hills near 11 glacial lakes. Small towns dot the landscape, where regional cuisine is celebrated and historic architecture is honored. Traditionally known for riesling, the region is gaining notoriety for varieties from bold reds to crisp whites.

While visiting Mirbeau Inn & Spa in the town of Skaneateles, make sure to take a scenic boat cruise aboard the Judge Ben Wiles with Mid-Lakes Navigation. Skaneateles Lake is crystal clear and the surrounding houses rival the mansions of Newport, Rhode Island. Dining options in town include the renowned historic Krebs restaurant, and – just outside of town- Joelle’s offers authentic French cuisine in a circa 1820’s farmhouse setting.

Coco Ocean, The Gambia

By a never-ending stretch of sand without another hotel in sight, the white domes of Coco Ocean Resort & Spa look dazzling in the sunlight. This elegant spa hotel, known for its fabulous hammam, isn’t in Morocco, as its look might suggest. It’s in the smallest country on mainland Africa, The Gambia, nicknamed the Smiling Coast of West Africa thanks to the friendliness of the locals. With stunning beaches, fascinating wildlife, a vibrant culture, and year-round temperatures around 30 °C, it’s an enticing holiday destination that’s surprisingly still under many people’s radar.

Coco Ocean is a striking hotel to look at with a stunning three-tiered swimming pool leading down to lush lawns dotted with palm trees and tumbling bougainvillea and the sea beyond. It’s most famous for its sumptuous adult-only spa, with an indoor Thalassa therapy pool, steam room, sauna, and treatment rooms. There’s a wonderful, tranquil atmosphere and air of exclusivity throughout the spa. Best of all though, they offer a full range of treatments drawing and therapies from around the world, at very reasonable prices. It’s the best value spa I’ve ever been too but don’t think that means a compromise on quality. In my experience, their therapists are second to none.

Budapest, Hungary

We have always wanted to visit Budapest, by many recommended as the romantic cheap Paris of East Europe. It was, Budapest didn’t disappoint the expectations. But more than just the main sightseeing of the city, we were interested in the many thermal baths options. Budapest knows how to cuddle you.

We ended spending more time in the thermal baths, than going around the city. Budapest is the ideal capital where break your routine, relax and chill. The most known baths are the Gellert Spa and Szechenyi. Both extraordinary complexes, completely different from each other. The Gellert is more a hotel building with an Art Nouveau spa area. It is our favorite bath in Budapest because it is quiet, clean and elegant. It has also got an external area with different temperature pools.

The Szechenyi baths and pools are the most popular ones and cheaper compared to Gellert. It is a more modern building, with an internal and external pool. The last one is really popular on Instagram. The Szechenyi baths are also well known for their incredible parties, especially New Year’s Eve night.

There is another Spa in Budapest thanks to the history that goes back to the Roman Age. Then with the Turkish domination, it has seen an increase in the numbers, with a mix of cultures that now offers the best spa experience in Europe, for a cheap price. Check out the Ruda Baths, which holds a special night session on Friday and Saturday until 4 o’clock in the morning. The external octagonal pool is amazing and is a perfect viewpoint over the Danube River.

Baden-Baden Spa, Germany

Written by Carly Mann from Absolutely Calgary. Follow Carly on Twitter here.

Baden-Baden is one of the world’s top spa travel destinations, and the second you arrive in this charming German town, on the edges of the Black Forest, you’ll understand why.  Although only 50,000 people live in Baden-Baden, the town is still home to two of Germany’s largest and most luxurious spas: Friedrichsbad and Caracalla Spa.

You have to give yourself at least two full days in Baden-Baden, as visiting each spa is a full-day experience on its own.  Friedrichsbad calls itself a traditional Irish-Roman spa, where surly spa staff ensures that all spa-goers follow the same seventeen-step spa ritual in the prescribed amount of time.  Under their watchful eyes you will steam, soak, sweat, and scrub your way to absolute relaxation… all while completely naked!

Caracalla Spa is a more modern spa facility that features a family-friendly clothed area and an adults-only “textile-free” zone. At Caracalla, they offer countless complimentary infusions, which are self-administered spa treatments like aromatherapy, scrubs, and skin hydration. The only caveat is that you have to be able to withstand the heat in the hottest saunas to partake!

If you’re not completely exhausted or relaxed after an intense day of spa-going, Baden-Baden’s charming historic center is packed with independent boutiques, traditional German restaurants, and picturesque parks.

  1. Wow, this is so great! Some of these spas and vacations look so dreamy 😍Especially the thermal baths in Budapest – but Budapest has always been at the top of my travel list.
I also just recently learned of a Japanese spa in Tokyo called Shimizu-yu Onsen. They have gold and black baths that are rich with minerals said to be over a million years old!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful vacation destinations!
